Thanksgiving Time

Our Thanksgiving break started out with a trip to the temple, and some shopping at Tai-Pan and DI afterwards. While we were at DI, we found THEEESE BEAUTIES, and thought "It would be so funny if we bought these, and wore them to Thanksgiving dinner." We really thought about it, but then decided that we could find other places to spend $10 (yah, I know...$10...may not seem like a big deal, but to newly married college students...it is! ha!) so I just decided to take a picture of our blouses instead! :)

Jordan and Stacey also moved up here to St. George the day before Thanksgiving! We are so blessed that Mom and Dad Coons have their home here, and that they can help all of us out when needed! So yup...we have 2 Coons families living in our house now...and it's a party! We moved their stuff into the Storage unit on Thursday morning!

Don't judge these pictures...it was early, and cold! ;)

Thanksgiving dinner was fun this year, because Ster's parents came down from Salt Lake, and my family already lives here...so we got to have 2 dinners, and spend time with both families! Here we are at Gma Jolley's house!

We took pictures at the Coons family Thanksgiving too...but they're on Chris's (Ster's dad) camera. I need to get them.

We also put up our Christmas tree and Christmas decorations Thursday night (Thanksgiving night) and now our house looks all ready for Christmas! YAY!!!! I love this time of year, and it was so much fun getting it all decked out with the family! ;)

Here's a cute message my husband wrote to me, when he told me to go check on the cookies in the oven, to make sure they weren't burning! Ahhhh, I love him!

We made Sugar Cookies as a family, and decorated them all "Christmasy". It was a lot of fun...and Ben n' Katie LOVED the frosting!!! ;)

Sterling made a Stocking and I made a tree! Woo!

The finished product!!! Yah...we made a COSTCO batch of sugar cookies! haha! If you need'em in bulk...come to us!

We had a fun family lunch at the Olive Garden! MMMM!

McKenzie had a soccer tournament over the Thanksgiving holiday, so I went to watch her championship game!

They played Ogden for their Championship, and had already beat them once before in the tournament, and beat them again in the final game. It was so frustrating, because THIS is the team they played for the state tournament, and lost to in a double overtime, and a shoot out!!! Can you believe it...knowing you are better than them playing on their home field, on their MILE TALL GRASS, and losing the state title by a goal in a shoot out! >:( I think I'm more angry than kenz! ha! But yah...they killed'em twice in this tournament too, so I was proud of her! She had a great game! (It makes me miss high school soccer!)

My parents are re-doing their home, and so we also have been spending some time helping them! Here's Kenz, Jayce n' Brady, and Mom painting Kenzie's new room!

It will be so cute when it's all done!

We had such a great Thanksgiving break, and it was so nice to spend it with family! Stay tuned...because Christmas break is only about 2 weeks away...and we are MORE THAN READY for that to come! haha!

Family Home Evening

Jubilee of Trees!!!

Tonight Sterling took me on a really fun date to the Jubilee of Trees for our Family Home Evening. It was such a fun night. I have loved going to the Dixie Center every year at Christmas, and looking at all the AMAZING trees. This year was no let down!!! Here are pictures of some of our favorite trees:

Phantom of the Opera Tree

JOY (picture frames all over the tree) (this was special, because it had pictures of all the little babies in the NICU)

And the Peacock Tree

All of the trees are auctioned off, and all of the money goes to support a cause that the hospital chooses each year.

This year, it went towards the NICU (neonatal unit). With Chris (Ster's dad) working with Intermountain Health Care, this holds a special place in our family! Thanks for the fun date Sweetheart! I LOOOOOVE CHRISTMAS TIME! 'TIS THE SEASON!

Best friends, and Truly in Love!

Today at school, while working on patients in the clinic, the office secretary came into my opretory and brought me THEE MOST BEAUTIFUL vase of roses!!! It was a total surprise from my husband, and made my heart so glad to get "just because" flowers!

Disregard the GROSSNESS of this picture...scrubs, 8-5 at school, and being in clinic all day don't help! ha!

I had a research paper due, 2 assignments,a clinic competency, a huge test, and a bunch of stuff going on that day...and had a super stressful morning when I left the house yesterday. Well...at about 10:00, that "stressful morning" just got a WHOLE LOT better! My opretory was beaming with yellow (red tipped) roses. My instructor asked me if I knew what this color of rose meant, and I said "Uhhh, isn't it like I miss you, or Friendship, or something?" and she informed me that "Yellow roses symbolize friendship, and Red roses symbolize true love". So these beautiful yellow red tipped roses must mean best friends who are truly in love!

So...I am so lucky to truly be in love with my best friend, and better yet...to be MARRIED to him! :) It just made my day, and I am thankful for all the "little" things in marriage that make it so wonderful!

Fall Fun

This was our first Halloween together, and it ended up being a lot of fun! Sterling's work was having a "spooky pot-luck" at the Pharmacy, and he needed to bring a "scary" dish for the festivities. We went grocery shopping and he told me that he wanted to make a "BRAIN" dish with "EYEBALLS". hah! I just laughed and said it sounded like a fun idea, but then asked him just how in the world he thought he was going to actually MAKE this Brain of his. He wasn't sure, but by putting both of our brains together we came up with some pretty creative ideas!

We bought some of that "rainbow shaped" pasta and boiled that up. As soon as it was done boiling, we put it in a bowl and stuck it in the fridge to harden. Next we made 1/2 and 1/2 sauce (half Alfredo and half Marinara) to make the light pink sauce to go on the outside of the "brain". We garnished it off with some lovely meatball and olive eyeballs, and he was such a happy guy! It looked grosssss to eat, but it was a SWEEEET lookin' brain!

Sterling got me in the spirit of Halloween, and I decided to make "Mummy Pizza's" for my Dental Hygiene class. I got the idea from my aunt Sheryl. She made them with her little kids one night, and I thought they turned out adorable.

It was so easy. We made them Sunday night up at my mom and dads house, and we had a lot of help from "Little Miss". We just bought Pillsberry biscuts (flattened them out on the pan), spread pizza sauce on them, put a few pepperoni's on each, and then "wrapped" them with string cheese! We topped'em off with some olive eyes, and VVVVVUALAH...Mummy Pizzas!

We also made some DELICOUS Caramel Apples at my mom and dads house, and EVERYONE loved those. Caramel apples are one of my favorite treats to get (over at Rocky Mtn. Chocolate Factory) but they're expensive. So we got creative and made our own. Mine and Ster's favorites are the White chocolate with cinnamon and sugar! YUM!!! It was just a really fun Halloween Holliday!
Right after school on Monday night however (before doing our fun festivities) We went to Target to do some shopping. Last week in church we had a really great lesson on emergency preparedness. We realized that we had always been prepared living with our parents, but decided we needed to follow counsel given, and get our 72 hour kits made. We are blessed to live in Chris and Kim's home and they have STOCKED us with food storage, but we felt we needed to get a start on our "preparedness". It's times like this when I'm so grateful to have a handyman husband who knows what things will really help us out, and how to use "outdoor" items I don't. Ya know...pocket-knives, and "scout stuff" haha!

We're still not totally there yet...but we are definitely getting closer! The speaker said a really great idea is to put your 72 hour kit in the trunk of your car...so that way when an emergency situation happens...you'll always have your kit with you. (If at home, your car is right in the garage. If at work, you have your car in the parking-lot. etc.) Good advice!

We are having a great time, and are in love as ever! We've been married for about 5 months now, and it's flying!!!

Oh one last thing! I was at school yesterday, and a rep came to present to us from Crest-Oral B company. She gave each of us a gift bag with about $150 of products in it. I got a new power toothbrush (+2 heads for it), the charger, the sensitivity indicator/timer, toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, and a patient oral health guide. Sweet huh? Perks of Dental Hygiene I guess. (Ster was ECSTATIC! He loves when we get anything free! ha!)

Month of Gratitude

We are so super busy with life right now, and it has no intent on slowing down. ha!

I was thinking back to my High School days (doing drill team, student body officers, playing on the soccer team, and keeping up grades, family, and social life) and remember then, thinking "I can't possibly ever be busier than I am now". Then moving on to college and THAT was a whole other kind of overwhelming business. After that came my mission and honestly and truly thinking "I don't see how I can EVER be more busy and tired than I am RIGHT NOW!" Well...I can say I've been through this before, and came out on top...and I haven't even experienced motherhood yet, so I'm gonna stall and not say I don't think I can be busier than I am now! haha!

Life is so happy for us though! The Lord tenderly blesses us every single day! Ster and I are both in school and both working, and have amazing callings in our ward.

Sterling is a full time student at Dixie State and is getting his bachelors degree in biology (yaaahhh, he's a genius). He is Pre-Pharmacy (graduating in about a year), and is working as a Pharmacy Tech. right now at Stapley's Pharmacy and LOVES his job!!! When both of us graduate from Dixie...it's off to Pharm school SOMEWHERE in the country...and that's a whole other adventure in and of itself! :) He is the Duty to God adviser in the Young Mens, and those young men are the biggest chums with him! ha! They love him! He's such a good example to everyone around him all the time...and he is THEE MOST patient husband in the universe! I love him, and it truly one of the greatest blessings in my life to be married to my very best friend

I am also a full time student at Dixie State, and spend most of my time in the Taylor Health Science building on the hospital campus! I am perusing my degree in Dental Hygiene and will be a RDH in 2013. I had to stop working at my office that I loved (it was pediatric dentistry...so I worked with kids all day!!! It was the best) this past Summer to go to school 8-5 most days. I work at Christensen's Dept. store still, and they have become like my family over the years! I am having the time of my life working with the young women in the ward as the Personal Progress advisory. It has taught me so much, and helps me continue to grow (not as a young woman necessarily) but as a wife, and a future mom!

We both have PHENOMINAL families who support us in everything we do! Sterling's parents currently live in Salt Lake, and are BLESSING OUR LIFE INCREDIBLY by letting us live in their home here in St. George! We love them for that more than words can even say...but are sad that they're far away! He has a Brother+family in Southern California, a Sister+family in Virginia, another Brother+family in Oklahoma, another Brother+family in Las Vegas Nevada, and yet another Brother+family in Minneapolis Minnesota. Yaaah, they're ALLL over!

My family is CLOSE to us though, and that makes life SO MUCH FUN!!! Jeff and RaCail are over in Hurricane right now...but that may change here in a bit, and we love the whole Ivins crew being just 5 minutes away! ;) We couldn't do all the things we love, without the love and support and prayers from our families!

With the Gospel, Families, and Education along with so many other blessings, we feel that life is amazing, and couldn't ask for anything more!

Just Starting Out

Welcome to the life of Sterling and Megan Coons!!!

We are "Just starting out" with many things in life, together as a couple. Some of the starters being:
  • Starting out as Newly Weds
  • Having our first Hollidays together
  • Starting out at new jobs/new places in our schooling
  • Having our first home together
  • and this... Starting to record "our Starting out History" together!
We are very busy in school, and are working a lot besides...but we don't want to forget these precious times in our life, that will make us become who we are. We also want something to show our family in the future, and a way to stay connected to our family now...because we're all so spread out!

I'm not promising we'll be great at updating every day, but we do hope you'll find joy in the journey with us!
